Donald C. Sibery, MHA, FACHE
President and Managing Partner
Don Sibery is President and Managing Partner of The Sibery Group, LLC (TSG). TSG is a healthcare consulting company concentrating its work in the areas of quality sustainable redirections, interim management services, operating and financial consulting, regulatory and accreditation assessment and compliance, strategic planning, executive coaching and cultural transformation. Don has served as the interim CEO of an inner city hospital in Chicago, Illinois, where TSG was engaged to undertake a quality/operating/
financial sustainable redirection through a total facility management contract. He is serving as a Governance and C-Suite consultant and executive coach to various hospitals, health systems and physician groups and serves as the engagement partner for client engagements. He has developed strategic plans, Board restructuring plans, succession plans, incentive plans and CEO performance evaluation tools.
He has been a hospital or health system CEO for nineteen years and prior to that a COO for ten years at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. He has overseen significant accomplishments in all dimensions of the hospitals and health systems where he has served.
Two of his chief executive officer roles have been with vertically integrated systems: one in Wisconsin and the other in the western suburbs of Chicago. Under his leadership, Wausau Hospital (Wisconsin) was listed among Modern Healthcare’s “Top 100” hospitals. The heart and gastrointestinal programs there have sustained being on the “Top 100” list since 1996. Also, the heart program went from 70 open hearts in 1985 to 400 in 1996. Central DuPage Health, located thirty miles outside of Chicago, succeeded in attaining the third largest CON awarded in the history of the State of Illinois. It also earned a Standard & Poors AA bond rating, added many new clinical programs, achieved market share growth, and doubled the size of the emergency room to accommodate 60,000 visits per year.
Wherever he has been, Don has forged successful business partnerships - with physician groups, other health systems, or academic medical centers. He has overseen growth in primary and secondary markets, increased access for residents of the communities where he has been, sparked the creation of a freestanding healthy community initiative, and overseen a long-term community partnership to reduce untreated depression in DuPage County.
Don has brought physicians into active roles in governance in organizations where they previously have had little involvement. He also has brought physicians into hospital and health system management roles.
He has increased good performance and turned around poor performance, dropping days in accounts receivable from 70.9 to 57.3 (i.e., $13.2 million) - a best in class status.
As a founding member and Past Chair of the Health Insights Foundation, Don is also a leader among leaders. He is the former chair of the Wisconsin Hospital Association and recipient of its Distinguished Service Award. He is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), a former Regent in the College and recipient of a Regents award. He has contributed to book chapters and articles and has been an active presenter. Don has a BA in Psychology from the University of Iowa and a Masters in Hospital Administration from the University of Michigan.
Anthony J. Tedeschi, MD, MPH, MBA
Executive Vice President and Founding Partner
Anthony (Tony) J. Tedeschi, MD, is Executive Vice President and Founding Partner of The Sibery Group, LLC (TSG). Formerly a primary care physician in rural Illinois, Dr.Tedeschi is a senior healthcare professional who has been president of a large multi-site, multi-practice physician group and has served as president of a 381-bed community acute care hospital.
Dr. Tedeschi’s role in The Sibery Group has been serving as the lead consultant on several engagements focused on organizational improvement. Significant projects include working with an inner city hospital facing a multitude of CMS related issues, as well as organizational and cultural issues on a comprehensive quality sustainable redirection. He served as their Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer for two years leading the organization through the process of CMS compliance and accreditation reinstatement as well as operational performance improvement. The organization has been measurably improved in multiple areas including service/satisfaction, operational efficiency, clinical quality and workforce excellence. Currently, Dr. Tedeschi is serving in a similar role with another hospital initiating a sustainable redirection. Dr. Tedeschi has also led projects involving the design and implementation of hospital-based quality measurement systems.
Prior to founding The Sibery Group, Dr. Tedeschi was the lead executive accountable for hospital quality sustainable redirection, for the redesign of Medical Staff Services, and for stabilizing workforce and physician unrest during a protracted period of clinical and leadership crisis. As President and Chief Operating Officer of a large physician group practice, he designed and implemented productivity-based physician compensation, achieved and sustained upper quartile scores in all business units for patient satisfaction, and implemented several cutting edge quality initiatives throughout the primary care practices.
A key example of such quality initiatives is a chronic disease management model that led to the first physician group JCAHO certification in diabetes chronic disease management in the country. Other examples include process improvement in physician practices, PSO settings, and hospital clinical departments. Dr. Tedeschi is the author of the TSG dashboard for “balanced scorecard” management.
Dr. Tedeschi has a gift in terms of his ability to coalesce physicians and staff in emotionally charged situations and he uses a leadership approach of candid, timely, and consistent communication. He facilitates the formation of productive teams from what beforehand might have been contentious groups.
Dr. Tedeschi trained at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He is a board-certified family medicine physician having completed residency training at Lutheran General Hospital. After practicing medicine for six years he returned to school to earn a MPH from the Medical College of Wisconsin concurrent with serving as the medical director overseeing several immediate care and occupational health care centers. Six years later he earned a MBA from the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois, while he was the president of a physician network and he was president of an acute care hospital. He currently holds a faculty appointment at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Duane J. Fitch, CPA, MBA
Senior Partner and Chief Financial Officer
Duane has extensive financial and operational experience with both healthcare provider organizations and payer organizations. He is currently serving as the interim Chief Financial Officer for Norwegian American Hospital (“NAH”), a safety net hospital located on the west side of Chicago. Prior to NAH, he served as interim CFO of Roseland Community Hospital, a safety net hospital located on the south side of Chicago. Duane is a dynamic senior executive with a proven record of accomplishment assisting healthcare organizations to develop and exceed their strategic, financial, and operational objectives.
From 2000-2004, Duane has held the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President – Operations for Concentra Preferred Systems (CPS) headquartered in Naperville, Illinois and with five regional offices throughout the United States. CPS is a privately held corporation and is the nation’s largest provider of non-network cost containment services for the health insurance industry. Major clients include Cigna, United HealthCare, Humana, PacifiCare, and many other large payers.
Prior to CPS, Duane served as the Chief Financial Officer for the member organizations of Central DuPage Health (CDHealth) in Winfield, Illinois. CDHealth is an integrated healthcare delivery system provider offering a full continuum of care through its six member organizations.
Duane has significant experience in the financial, operational and strategic issues facing skilled nursing, home health, and substance abuse facilities.
Duane is a customer-facing executive with excellent communication and presentation skills that help build positive and professional relationships with employed and independent physicians, Boards of Directors, executive management teams, managed care payer organizations, donors, and other stakeholders.
Duane received his B.S. Accountancy degree from Northern Illinois University, his Certified Public Accountant designation from the State of Illinois in 1986, and his MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University. He is very active within his community and has served on the Board of Directors of several not-for-profit agencies.
